Product Development Plan Released | ADAYO Huayang Multimedia at the 2nd Automotive Head-Up Display HUD Summit Forum

On November 13, 2020, the 2nd Automotive Head-Up Display (HUD) Summit Forum was held at the Hyatt Hotel in Jiading District, Shanghai. ADAYO's multimedia product and R&D team was invited to attend the conference, and Zhang Huanyu, Assistant General Manager of ADAYO Multimedia, represented the company to deliver a speech on "ADAYO Multimedia HUD Product Line Planning and Technology Development Roadmap." At a time when HUD is receiving strong market attention, ADAYO Multimedia also publicly revealed its internal HUD product development plan for the first time and addressed the technical implementation issues that various OEMs are concerned about during the meeting.
In the current optical technology solutions for HUDs, due to size constraints, most vehicles cannot be equipped with high-parameter AR-HUDs, so W-HUD will be the mainstream in the market for a period of time.
When L0-L2 level assisted driving functions trigger alarms, braking, and other actions, W-HUD promptly displays the assisted driving status, allowing the driver to know the intervention situation of assisted driving at the first moment, enhancing the user experience of assisted driving.
With the upgrade of technology, the imaging unit of the TFT-based W-HUD has been upgraded from 1.8 inches to 3.1 inches, supporting a larger imaging area while upgrading the resolution, making the display more delicate and the content richer, allowing drivers to read more information without looking down, without compromising driving safety. With further technological upgrades and customer experience needs, a W-HUD based on 4.1-inch TFT will be launched in the future.
Although L2+ assisted driving functions have not yet become widespread, AR-HUD has already attracted the attention of OEMs, with mass-produced models available on the market, and Huayang Multimedia has already secured mass production project designations.It has become a consensus that AR-HUD is the inevitable direction of HUD development.
With the arrival of L2+ assisted driving functions, the subject of driving can be either a person or a vehicle. When a person is driving, AR-HUD transforms information display from isolated to guiding, making it easier to read; during autonomous driving, a person can understand the vehicle's driving intentions through AR-HUD. Of course, Huayang Multimedia is also considering developing entertainment functions for AR-HUD during parking. AR-HUD represents a qualitative leap in human-machine interface and is one of the configurations that best reflects the intelligent cockpit.
Although the current costs of AR-HUD, whether DLP or TFT solutions, are relatively high, there will be some room for cost reduction as production volume increases.
Currently, there are two imaging solutions for HUDs in the market: DLP and TFT. ADAYO Huayang Multimedia insists on pursuing both DLP and TFT technology solutions for AR-HUD, providing suitable solutions based on different specifications required by customers.
